E.7- JABA in one take- The serious matter of assent in ABA research

Hey there behaviorists!

Listen below to the new episode of JABA in one take. This is the series where we break down a paper from JABA so that you, the research-focused practitioner can keep up with current research literature.

This episode covers the serious matter of consent and assent as it relates to behavior analytic research. Reviewing the common laws on the topic, the authors make the point that, legally, we may not be required to do much… But that does not mean that ethically, we are off the hook. After examining all of the relevant journals, very few published articles described in detail the assent procedures used to ensure our clients rights. Potential reasons why and solutions are discussed, as well as a cost benefit analysis of training assenting skills in young learners.
